What is the best/easiest way to remove front backing plate (replacing wheel cylinders) working with floor jacks
Mostly concerned about the lower control arm dropping and not being able to get it back in position

Shouldn't need to remove the backing plate to replace the wheel cylinders.

...but jack stand under frame horn, jack under LCA...

There is no way of getting at the wheel cylinder bolts without removing backing plate ......

pick / jack it up by lower control arm. Remove the 4 bolts ( 2 of them go thru lower ball joint) there will be some tension . But not enough to be a major hassle to reconnect or cause you to have to deal with the torsion bar .

Grind and bend a wrench to fit. Remove the brake hose from the wheel cylinder first, install brakehose after cylinder is installed. More room to get at the bolts this way. Too much BS to remove backing plate.

This has been done how many multiple thousands of times on these cars. 1962-1969 B-bodies are all the same. They changed the wheel cylinder and backing plate in 1970.

I decided that the easiest way forward was to hone & rebuild the wheel cylinders in place......

That's always the easiest way... provided it's not pitted inside.

Still no reason your can't remove the hose and 2 bolts vs getting into a mess..
