Ok to start the fuel gauge on my 71 satellite wagon is not working, so the other day I pull out the sending unit and cleaned it up and got it working. So why it was out I moved the float and made sure that the gauge was reading. Then I put it in the tank, turn the key on, the gauge went to full, witch was odd. Then I started it and the gauge slowly droped to emty. So I got a unit I know is good, moved the float up and down and the gauge is not responeding now, I have no idea of what to try next. Thank you for any help.

IIRC- when you turned the key on without having the sending unit grounded to the tank, it grounded through the gauge itself. More than likely cooked the gauge. Take a 12v test light, turn the key to "on" and check to see if the test light pulses (flashes off and on) at the sender. If it does, sender is working properly, if not bad sender.

If I'm not remembering right, someone else feel free to correct me so I can " re-enter" correct info in my head. Hope this helps, good luck!
