Gentleman, just finished up my brake system in my car and now it's off to the fuel system. Car has been sitting in a garage since 1973 with about 3 gallons of gas in the tank.

What is the best way to attack this? Can the old fuel lines be cleaned out, if so how? Would it be cheaper to just replace the fuel lines with new ones, if so what is a good source? Where should I start, I have already dropped the tank, put in a sealer in the inside of the tank, and ordered a new sending unit.

Like Always, thanks in advance

I have always been a big fan of Fine lines, I bought stainless steel lines as an upgrade. They are copies of stock in terms of bends and coiled armor. If tank is out you can disconnect fuel line at fuel pump, empty a can of carb cleaner down it and then blast it out with compressed air and take it from there...

I have a 1970 Road Runner. It sat for 17 years, and I tried to save the gas tank, but I kept getting this fine silt crud from the tank clogging my dual fuel filters and carb. I finally gave up (after I stalled out in a really bad spot) and replaced the tank. It might have been able to be cleaned out, but the fine silty mess just seemed really hard to get rid of. The fuel lines may have rusted, have varnish in them, etc. If you can afford to replace them, I would.

Chasing crap in your fuel system gets old, especially when you have taken your carb apart a few times. I got silt in it even with two in line fuel filters, one before and one after my fuel pump. Take time to properly clean out or replace your old fuel system and you will thank yourself later.
