So I thought I was having a vapor lock issue. Once car would warm up it would start to buck and rough idle..eventually shutting off. Would need to let it cool down for 30-45 minutes then it would start back up but still rough. Notice at stops and going up hill while giving throttle. Installed phenolic carb spacer for heat soak. And clear fuel filter to check for boil..no boil. But low volume in fuel filter

Could be a worn fuel pump push rod. Is it aftermarket?
Yes it is an aftermarket pump. Not sure how long it’s been in there.when I start it up filter is almost full the gradually decreases to almost nothing. Say 10-15 minutes

Like T2R9 suggested, I would pull the rod and measure the overall length. Should be close to 3.22"

In addition to checking the pushrod length (which is probably good if it pumps fine after sitting), your pickup tube in the tank could be clogged if the tank is older, or your car sits a lot. Run the fuel pump inlet hose to a gas can/boat tank/etc to check for that.
Also, according to some Youtube channels, there's a lot of mechanical fuel pumps out there that won't even work out of the box, or craps out soon after.

It’s is a newer tank..I’m hoping it’s the pump or pushrod. Will definitely disconnect from inlet at pump first. See what kind of flow I get before the pump

If its the fuel pump push rod it may have a ticking or knocking sound. Or if its worn enough no sound at all.

When you have the filter laying horizontally, you are going to create an air lock [ no fuel ] in the top half. And you are not using all the filter area. It will work OK, & I doubt it is causing your problem. Looks like an Edel carb, & last number of part # is a 6.
So what carb?
What other engine mods? Cam, ign?
