Got an unusual question. I just got my 73 Charger back on the road after several years in a garage. My question is have any of you members ever used something called Sloshing Compound? I used it in a 1947 Dodge pickup a long time ago. It really worked. It cleans the inside of the tank. My Charger has a good degree of rusty scale at the bottom. I realize a replacement tank is probably the best fix but I want to try the other stuff first. Has anyone used this compound or something related that does a good job. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!!!

There are many DYI products cleaner's , sealers ect on the market , also many home brewed fixs.
But most are on par with the engine overhaul in a can stuff

Rust is rust and the only way to remove it is with acid boil tank, If your tank is solid and your just dealing with some interior surface rust and old goop take it and get it boiled out.

If its pitted bad inside find a clean used tank or order a new repop one. JMHO but trying to save a rusty tank isn't worth the $ and headache.

On '55 FORD(!) tanks, I've soaked in TSP, rinse, then weak muriatic acid, rinse, then slosh Ospho, dry, rinse, final rinse with acetone or MEK, then Red Kote. Awesome results.

What works really well to clean a fuel tank is to toss a couple of feet of chain inside along with whatever soap or rust remover you will use. Get a buddy and shake the tank in some logical manner. The idea is the chain flying around in the tank will help break loose all the crud - kind of like scrubbing bubbles!! Then when it goes back in use at least two fuel filters in parallel before the pump and keep spares in the car for a few months.
