The gas tank in my '69 Bee started leaking so I ordered a Goodmark replacement and it does not fit correctly. My tank goes back in a few minutes, but the Goodmark tank I can't even get the straps to reach the bolts. Tried ordering new straps and have the same problem. Does anybody know where to get a good quality repro tank or a NOS tank??

They are a bear to install. If you have something between the trunk and the tank it will be worse. Get a friend to help, you can also get a floor jack with a 2 foot square piece of plywood and jack it up enough to start the bolts.

Did that trick with the floor jack and the wood......started lifting the car off of the jack stands. My old tank goes right in without a problem--no floor jack or trick---just hold it up with your knee and put the bolt on the strap, no big deal...it has to be the new tank causing the problem.

They are a pretty tight fit until you get the straps formed correctly and the nuts tightened up the first time. I have never tried a Goodmark, but have had good luck with Spectra which is made in Canada.

i suggest spectra as well.never had any issues with there product.you can get them at a great price through rock auto.

I understand what you are saying about getting the straps formed....but even with new straps my old tank fits with no problem at all...no fighting with the straps (both the old straps and the new ones)...as soon as I try to get the new tank in there I can't get the straps to even reach the bolts to start the nuts. Floor jack under the tank or not....same result..I don't get it.

Maybe a picture would help. Let see what it looks like

A pic of what?? The tank looks like a replacement tank and no way I can take a pic of the strap since I need to hold the tank, the strap and the camera...but picture the strap about 1/4" from the bolt even with a floor jack under the tank.

X2 on spectra thru rockauto.

I am going to see if anybody in my area still fixes tanks...if not then I will try that route.

Thanks

never mind. sounds like you have a handle on it

nope.....they look right.

if you wanna try a temp puller bolt.use some battery j bolts, come in upto 16 inch lengths.once you get it stretched into place, switch back to the factory bolts.cheep and easy.

There is a reason it is not fitting when the factory tank fits. Send it back and order one from Spectra.
