Did some appreciable searching here about gas gauge gremlins, not coming across my hassle, so posting for some tips in case anyone has encountered what I’m having. Trying to condense here: My gauge has operated intermittingly and seems to be accurate – when working. It seemed that it would work when started up for a while and goes near to or to empty after warm-up. It’s gotten worse where it usually isn’t working now. It’s a new tank and new rear harness, about five-years now. The temp gauge operates fine making me think it shouldn’t be the voltage limiter. I did have to repair the CB a few years back. Added an extra ground for the cluster.

Thinking it must be a grounding issue and jotted down some things to check while sifting through some posts here on the topic. Thought before I start the hunt, maybe someone has had this problem and can share what they found as the fix. Thanks!

^^^^That would be my first thought, sending unit loosing its ground. I’d take a test lead with a couple of alligator clips , attach it to the sending unit and a good ground somewhere, take it out and drive it. See what happens.

My Plymouth would work intermittently.
I found just removing the wires from the gauge a quick brush and put them back on solved it.

Make sure the clip is there and it has a good connection. They can rust and loose ground or even rust in half. It's what bridges across the rubber hose. Some folks will make a ground wire from the sending unit to a good ground.
