i have 1966 belvedere II
having trouble putting gas in
pump shuts off and gas pour out
any ideas ?

we've had this question b4 on here but can't remember the solution.i know on one of my cars i have to turn the nozzle sideways so it doesn't splash back

Just put gas in my 66 Bel tonight and I had the same issue. What I've noticed is the nozzle has to be just at the right angle to make it work. If you look at the shape of the filer tube it makes an abrupt turn so I'm thinking that's the issue. Since I wasn't driving in 1966 I have no idea what the nozzle shape looked like back then, but I do know there was no vapor recovery boot. I can't imagine this was an issue when the cars were new so something must have changed. My 71 Ranchero and my old 68 Mustang has a similar problem.

It's a conspiracy to get the old cars off the road!!

I think you have to jam it in as far is it goes (that's what she said :rolling:) the nozzle needs air around the tip so it doesn't back fire.

And also make sure you put the cap back on, lest you get waved over by a lady in a mini-van saying (after like three hole shots ) "everytime you take off, you're spilling gas all over the place!" Worst of all, i had two buddies in the car with me:sFun_doh2:
