Tomarrow ill be dropping my gas tank to clean it out. Is there anything i should be carefull for when lowering it? Im scared of snapping the filler neck, and not finding a replacement, or messing up the vents.

You shouldn't hurt anything if you get all the lines unhooked at top and back of tank.. If the worse happens or you want a new grommet for filler pipe type in Google "vans auto.com" you can get the new grommet for filler pipe and seal for sending unit from them. There is a small bracket on your filler pipe to unhook, under license plate, Im assuming its a 71-74 maybe not. Good luck with it though.

So I got the tank dropped. I took out the float fuel sucker thingy, and all i can say is that thing looks like what youd find at the bottom of the sea! Lol so my guess was right now to get a new tank, and im glad i wasint stupid and put a new fuel filter on when i changed the carb. I cant stop laughing at how bad it is.

A good radiator shop can work wonders with a gas tank. As long as it's not slam rusted through, they can probably save it.

Sounds like its pretty bad, Rusted that bad or full of everything one could imagine? Anyway i think i paid around 245 bucks for a tank for my 73 from Van's, 50 for the 3/8 sending unit (upgraded from 5/16).. Should give you a idea of about how much you may have in one.. good luck..
