Can the gas tank vent be removed and replaced with a new rubber grommet> I see all the 66=67 gas tanks are sold with that short vent tube installed? Is that removable to change the grommet mine appears to have around it. I bought the filler grommet and what DMT called the vent grommet but the tube appears to be in there real good?

I haven't done it, but you will have to work the grommet in around the vent tube to get it in. Repro tanks don't have the vent grommet.

As R/T BOY said to put grommet in, difficult. I removed the vent tube by drilling the spot welds on top of tank to cut the straps holding tube. Installed grommet fished .015 copper wire through the 2 holes where straps were. The wire was to hold the v tube.
A shamy way to do it, was just trying to get car running. Went to a junkyard before doing above. I told the owner of junkyard be careful not to screwup the vent tube, of course his guy bent the F out of v tube. Guy was pissed when I didn't want the tank. I'd just buy a tank.

The vent tube was broken on my van. Plastic tank, 25 US gallons. When I filled up, fuel would escape out the vent, and create a puddle on the ground. I discovered this half way to Inuvik on the Dempster Highway. Later I dropped the tank, put on a new vent line and made sure it ran up hill. At the bitter end I ran it straight up about 6 inches and made a 180 bend and covered the end with a mesh type material. Works fine. I also put in new J hooks to hold t(e straps that hold up the tank, and new hoses to the filler. The filler tube also has a vent tube.
