What is the proper way to adjust your steering gearbox. Just had my front end aligned and shop tech told me I might want to check my steering gearbox play I just want to know the proper way of doing it. Thanks. (Figured it out)

Here's the deal. The internal components do not wear evenly, so eliminating the slop in the straight ahead position it will likely bind on turns. Assuming no one has touched anything up to this point, give it 1/8 turn in and check it. If all is well go another 1/8. Check it by driving slowly and see if the steering returns to center as it did or jack the car up and check. The fact is you will have to live with a little slop because of the wear pattern. I don't think I ever made more than about 3/8 turns with success. Manual steering is much easier to feel and can be done with the car jacked up. And remember where you started so you can go back.

Yeah thanks the gearbox is relatively new I was just going to check to see where it's at now and if there was play in it. I think he's full of what a dog puts on your lawn before I did all the bushings The steering wheel was straight now it's alittle cocked to the right. I know I can bring it back to center by just adjusting to tie rods sleeves so I just told him to leave it right there Just hate to do that after paying for alignment

I hear ya. And centering the wheel is part of the alignment.
