i got myself a pair of Damon Kuhn Diamondback 800 Edelbrock Carbs and I am going to make a back to back comparison against my finely tuned C & B Edelbrock 800 1412 carbs to see if they are as good as they say they are.

I'm curiuos to see if there are any ET difference losses or gains to be made from them.
This will be interesting.
Going to jet them the same exact way to see results.
This should be interesting.

Don't know about the other carbs you have but the Diamondback carbs are worth.15-.20
in most cases.

If they don't pick up some time for ya, talk to Damon before you dis him. The guy knows what he's doing. The first time I met him I thought just another Texas hick but the stuff that's in his head will make yours spin lol Well, at least it made mine spin lol

C&B? thats funny I thought you tuned your own carbs...

Managed to find a used set of his carbs I take it?
got any pictures of your set of his carbs? I'd like to see them!! Damon is the man when it comes to these things!!

Casey

Well sir, they are NOT new.....Those front plugs have not been used in over 1 1/2 years, the hoses are not something they are shipped with and I never ship with the accelerator pump in the top hole. I am reasonably sure I know where they came from and if I am correct they left here 3 years ago.

well mr.outsider, they are new as never been run. sorry for the confusion.
can't wait to try these carbs out as see what all the hype is.
I'm betting slower than the C & B's. time slips to prove also.
to be continued......

Really,,,,maybe this will refresh your memory- a pic from the previous owners wife who emailed me to find out what they were after her husband passed away. According to my info they were run until he switched to E85. Notice the blackened throttle plates- this means they were run.

To be honest I was a bit curious to see what happened as they are probably not set up for your car and I wanted to see what happened. I also don't expect anything positive from you . For those who don't know and to remind you, you have been negative about these and gone as far as calling them hype and me lazy in the past (here's a partial copy of your comments from way back)
Mark- I am not inclined to help him much-he has already told the folks at Moparts all I do is cut the tops off and do some jet and spring changes-called them "hype" -obviously never saw a set( from what his post says, he talked to me, I don't know, but I suppose I am supposed to just tell anybody who calls how to do it all themselves) There are pictures of the tops on the homepage at diamondbackengines.com - looking at the top might help a little , but the internal mods are not visible from the top....BTW Charlie Kuenster called yesterday- picked up a tenth with his on the 59 Camino....

i almost went with the damon kuhn carb hype.
$1000.00
his carbs make power was his sales pitch, cutting air bhorns and blending venturis,
i went a different route and only cost me $100.00 and i picked up .25 and 6 mph.
ask poppaj how his damon kuhn carbs are working for him

What causes you to behave the way you do is beyond me, but I have many many customers who are happy with these carbs ( some of which have posted there results for you before) so do as you wish.
By the way Mark is texoutsider ( I am a member ) -I go by fugly

As I said before, the carbs on my car were built by Damon for my motor combo along with many other factors. Damon has many different combinations and setups he uses when he builds a set of carbs for a customer. It is not a fixed set of mods he uses on each set. I picked up close to two full tenths over my carbs. At the Monster Mopar race in St.Louis a couple of weeks ago there were a very large percentage of the 82 true NSS cars there running his carbs. Ask any of these racers and they will tell you the same thing: "They went faster with the Diamondback carbs", and that is from racers running the 12 second classes to the 8 second classes.
You will not find anyone that works harder and has the knowledge and experience he has setting up a race car.

well mr. fugly, this was not to degrade your carbs by any means.
i heard they were great pieces so i want to see how they compare.
if you remember our conversation. you told me to send money and you'll get to them because you were very busy. i didn't like that answer so i moved on. your the one attacking me here.
i'm just looking for a comparison, if anything this post is a compliment not a knock of your product of any sort.
let it go.

It wasn't meant as an attack, as a matter of fact I wasn't going to say a word until you announced they were new. My sole concern is any mis perception of my product or character. I don't see how "betting they are slower" is a compliment and after your previous comments , made without ever seeing them I felt it wise to keep this honest. As Jim said, I build them for specific combos, and while they will likely perform well if the combo is in the same general area as designed, they may not be optimum and if the combo is significantly different, I have no idea what will happen. The same goes for what I supposedly told you. I don't remember our conversation persee, but I can tell you I always give a range in weeks of how long anything will take, from carbs to engines. That is very important to me a when I was young and having others do work, I ran into the scenario of waiting longer than told and paying more than being quoted often and I don't ever want t do that to someone. So I may have said something like I will get to it as soon as I can, worst case X weeks, but never just I will get to it. I spend a lot of time with these carbs partially out of interest in my own car, as a matter of fact that is why they were originally developed and once they worked, I built some for a couple of my close friends before I ever sold a set. The original ones still had choke horns as required by the rules back then and have been developed from there. I cannot take full credit for the performance either as a very famous 60's racer / carb guru gave me his secrets which were expanded on. This is an ongoing process, and I am in the process of testing some experimental carbs this year- they are showing promise and if they work, the new mods will be incorporated and added to rebuilds on existing carbs once I am sure they work consistently. This is how I do things, and if I don't think they will be a significant help when somebody calls, (there are cases where the expected gains do not justify the cost)I will tell them just that. THAT is how I operate- I would far rather miss out on a little money than become like those I had to deal with.

ssr is busted

busted for what?

guess you texas guys think your going to ruin a good comparison. sorry it ain't gonna work.

there isnt going to be any bashing going on on this thread from me. so keep it up. never once did you see me bash his carbs.

I didnt see new carbs and the carbs werent prepped for your set up so its a bs comparison. I have watched him prep a few of these and it isnt a simple process.

This is not SUPERSTOCKRACER's first time to the rodeo with this style carb.Did you think he bought a set of carbs and was just gunna throw them on and make a pass??:icon_hang:They wil be recalibrated to be like the C&B's and then a few steps fatter so they don't go lean. The data will be downloaded and studied so that fine tuning can be achieved. This comparison will NOT be conducted on a race day and will be documented.Maybe fugly could share with us the engine combo he set these up for so that SSR can choose which one of his 3 NSS cars would be best to use for this comparison.I noticed some faithfull fugly customers state how they picked up with his carbs, but failed to mention what was being used before the change.

I used a set that I re-calibrated. Which ran well but the DK carbs ran better. There is a lot of work that go into these carbs that are not visible. He has sold hundreds of sets of carbs so it would be tough to indentify which setup SSR has without opening them up.

When the Carb Builder didn't build the cars to YOUR combo, I don't see how Diamondback would be getting a fair shake by you doing this comparison.
