I found a '74 duster for $1200. the guy that has it says he was in a community college body class and that he stripped the previous paint all the way down, there is zero rust on the car essentially. it has a 318/727 combo which runs but according to him is shot. all the interior is there but needs recovering. what do u guys think? is it worth it or should i hold out for something else? to be honest duster is not my favorite body style when compared to the cuda or other mopars but it seems darn near impossible to find those for decent price any how. let me know. thanks.

First, Welcome. Second, what kind of price range do you have to buy something? If it isn't much more than this Duster, then I'm thinking you won't find much of a car that is rust free etc unless you get exceedingly lucky.

I bought a Duster last year just cause, and I certainly enjoy driving it. I gave more than you're looking at, and have done a bunch of mechanical stuff to it as well. Still, I enjoy it even though it isn't MY favorite either. (just check my sig)

The Dusters will grow on you, i know....had two or three now and they are honestly the least expensive(nice projects anyway) and decent looking Mopars. I certainly can't afford an e-body, and the only b-body that was in my price range was a 72 Charger. Luckily it had bucket seats, slapstick and hideaways. I mainly look for a rust-free platform and work from there.
And like its been said before, if you like it, and you think its a good deal, then its a good deal!!!!!! Good luck and welcome from L.A.

Welcome to the board.

Here's the gig. If the car doesn't trip your trigger now, $3000 and a motor and trans from now probably won't do it then either. If it were me, I'd hold out for a car that I like. True, Dusters are more affordable than E and B bodies, but you're gonna have to consider resale also. I'd at least look for a '70-'72 in any event as they'd be easier to unload when the time comes.
