I have a 440 with edelbrock E street Heads.I have purchased a MSD #8387 ready to run Distributor but it will not seat tight . I have been told to grind the head so distributor will fit.Is this a good solution or is there a better way? Holley will not take a return since it is purchased over 3 months ago .I really do"t want to eat a 6 hundread dollar distributor.

I just installed the same MSD distributor on my 383 with Eddy heads and had to grind a smidge off. After you install the distributor, you can't see it.

Several head/distributor combinations don't play well together. (Like a lot of other things nowadays.) It's not the end of the world. Just take your time and grind away a little clearance and everything will be fine.

I stold these pictures years ago when I was considering doing the same

I personally think you can get clearance with much less grinding.

Had to be done on my heads as well with the MSD RTR. I think the builder said he only had to remove about .030".

As mentioned, you won’t notice it unless you know what you’re looking for. I didn’t have to do very much grinding either.

I ran into this 10yrs ago and Edelbrock asked me to send the distributor (8386) to them so they could evaluate it for modifying the head design. Guess they didn't consider it worth doing considering all the other distributor interference's. I used tape to leave a witness mark and used a file and filed it where just where it was hitting.
