Hey Folks- need some advise on new project. Any help would be appreciated. My 69 Hemi GTX has way too much engine "ping" when warm and I need to do something to eliminate this. Have timing adjusted to minimize but still a problem that needs a fix.
Runs fine on race gas a 9.65 per gallon but not on 93 octane.

Been reading about Snow Meth/Alcohol kit to reduce head heat and allow increase timing to get better power. Any one ever used these kits? My real problem is how to deliver atomized spray to the carburetor. Some dealers show a 3/4 or 1 inch carb spacer with a spray nozzle. Don't know if there is enough hood space to air cleaner to use a spacer. Any one know amount of hood space on unmodified hemi engine with original carter carbs? If so, how much useable space in order to consider spacers?

Saw Matt Snow, in magazine article, put this system on his Roadrunner six barrel. He simply mounted the nozzles in the air cleaner base plate. He said it worked well.

So, any suggestions about 1) Do I have enough hood clearance to add spacers? Experience with other ways to install nozzles? Again, any help would be appreciated. Got to cool the thing down.

Procure an A12 hood or a six pack hood in lay terms. That's what I did for clearance- but then again I also transitioned to the six pack set up. I have a 68 GTX. Clearance is great and it looks cool as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those A12 hoods bring a mean look to a Mopar. Thanks again.
Grandaddy.

the base plate is awesome, good way to test it out is buy a 3/4 in carb spacer. something cheap from the auto parts store. place it under your carb the see if you have clearance.

A good suggestion. Quickly find clearance and spend not much money. I like. Thanks,

Drop base air cleaner will buy you some room too if need be. I'm debating a snow water/meth kit for mine but only due to the fact I'm adding forced induction.

Another cheap way to check hood clearance would be to put a piece of Styrofoam on top of the air cleaner (1" thick, 1/2" thick or whatever) & hold it in place with some masking tape. Then slam the hood shut and see if it gets crunched. Drop base or open-top (e.g. Edelbrock) air cleaners help. I've never run methanol injection, but maybe you could find an old nitrous plate (preferably a thin one) and use that to inject methanol (if you have enough hood clearance).
