Carburetor heat soak or vapor lock?

The reason I'm asking about your filter setup, since its rubbing on top, is because I have a 440 in my 67 wagon running an Eddy Performer RPM w/750 Holley and an MP filter unit. The base for the filter is a drop type that only fits the Holley's with the center hung float bowls. If you use this unit on an AFB/TQ/Q-Jet, you need a 1" spacer to make it clear the top of the carb. Counterproductive. There are some units that have a drop base which looks like it was formed over a huge Bagel. Those fit just about everything.

^^
My 383 in 65 Belvedere with carb spacer and flat air cleaner had interference with the under hood insulation. I switched to a drop base air cleaner and no interference.

Ok. Not seeing that unit, but do see others. Saw one base, MRE28170, that may be it. The others shown are formed to fit the center hung bowl Holley's. You might look into finding a shorter element. I believe the one on my MP unit is a Wix 42044. It's a little under 3". Maybe 2.750 or 2.625? Can verify. Do you have a picture of your base? Wondering if it drops enough. Of course none of this helps with the vapor lock, but the other might.

The air cleaner is dropped down. Any lower and it will interfere with linkage. You can make out the impression in the hood mat.

Yeah, you may be stuck there. Only other thing to check would be to try and find a shorter element. There are dimensions in the back of the filter catalogs. But...need to find a catalog which is almost non existent in many stores and someone who's willing to go through all the dimensions. Any old school parts stores in your area? Is there a Wix/Fram/Purolator etc number on it somewhere?

I read a post here talking about running a return line to solve a fuel starvation/hard start problem when the car has hot and sat for a brief time. No mention of general driving problems. I was told that this is carburetor heat soak to be solved with a carb parobolic spacer and that vapor lock messes with the car just operating right. Can anyone share their experiences and solutions.
My car has an air gap intake for air circulation but is hard starting when hot and it sits for a brief time. Otherwise it runs great. I have no hood clearance for a parobolic spacer. Thanks
Mopar engineers figured out many years ago the biggest problem with fuel boiling after shut-down was in the fuel pump, not the Carb. That was why they developed the fuel separator and return line and installed it at the fuel pump. The expanded fuel gets sent back to the tank thereby leaving the fuel source to the carb uninhibited.
