As I was opening up the passenger door on my crown vic, something got on my shoulder. At first, I thought it was a leaf. Nope. It was a bird! Scared the **** outta me. I didn't hit it or touch it. I think I startled both of us. He jumped up on the car. It just sat there and stared at me. I could see it was favoring his right leg. After a few seconds, he jumped down and was hopping around the driveway. I went and got him some bird food. He was almost eating it out of my hand. I left him there for a few minutes. I came back out with more food in my hand. As I was walking around the car trying to find him, I feel something get on my back. It's the bird again! He jumped back down. Cari went and got a piece of bread and he was hopping up on my feet and legs when I sat down. I got the little guy some water. He would not leave me. He would fly away, get a bug and come right back to me. If he did fly away, he made sure to stay within sight.

He eventually got on Cari's arm, then shoulder. He was nestling under her hair. It was definitely a wild experience. We did finally get him into a cage so we could take him to the wildlife doctor.

It's a European Starling. Young adult. They said it was odd for him to get attached to me like that. They said his leg or foot was dislocated. Gonna call us when he's able to be released, hopefully within a couple days. They said we can pick him up and release him back here, which we will do.

Thought you all would enjoy this as much as I did!

That would be a neat experience. Hopefully it will mend up and be fine.

I love stuff like this.
Years ago, I was painting something with spray cans and set it in the sun to dry faster. We get some lizards crawling around sometimes and one happened to get stuck in the painted part. I went out with a popsicle stick and some water and slowly freed each of his four feet, then he hauled *** away.
I like to think that the animals know that we are trying to help them when stuff like that happens.

That's amazing! The wife and i have adopted two small parrots that came to our rooftop garden looking for help. I think they were probably abandoned pets. First one and then the next a year and a half later.

Sometimes birds do favor a leg like that for some reason. I've seen our parrots do that thinking they're hurt but they were fine. Even see them sleeping on one leg.

Neat, I’m shocked to see as those little critters are so skittish usually, Nice !

animals can sense the goodness in people . people cant sense the goodness in animals .
nice job and great experience you had you will remember that for ever

A couple of years ago I rescued an owl that had been hit by a car. We have a local entity that rescues raptors (birds no the truck :) )

I'm hoping the vet will call us before the end of the week. I'm anxious to see how the little guy does.

He'll be fine even with one leg. I don't know if those starlings are similar to the black ones we have around here but they have wild vocal ability. I bet they could be trained to talk pretty easily. There's one that sits here on the powerline and makes all kinds of crazy noises. Once in a while he'll even screech like a hawk. Sounds exactly like one.

Don't mean to ruin it for you, but you were not his first human.
