I thought I would hand out some credit where credit is due, in this day and age.

I recently had some issues with the Satellite. Running great one day, dead in the water the next. Trying to start, backfiring and generally sounding unhappy if it did grunt to life for a few seconds.

Did some initial troubleshooting with help from FBBO members, of course. But still, no dice.

Was going through mechanicals and electrical, and came to the possible conclusion that my Progression Ignition may have taken a dirt nap.

From what I have read online, this would be a rare occurrence.

So I contacted Ted Reiger @ Progression and explained my situation, asking if there was a possibility of sending it to their office in Florida for repair.

I purchased the distributor 1.5yrs ago so the 1yr warranty was definitely up.

Ted emailed me back and gave me a few things to check, and told me that I was welcome to send him the distributor, and he would diagnose it & perform any necessary repairs, at no charge!

One of the things that he mentioned to check was for a burnt smoky ring on the rotor, and make sure that the carbon button in the centre of the cap wasn't pitted.

Well, I went to check, and it wasn't pitted, it was basically GONE. It was flat, and had a good size crater in it.

I emailed Ted back and sent him some pics. He said that was definitely the problem, and also said he was sending me a brand new cap & rotor.

And he did, UPS, overnight from Florida! I just got it like 30 minutes ago, put it on the car, and she flashed right up!

Very happy right now and can't say enough about Ted and his company, Progression Ignition.

Not many places that go the extra mile like that anymore when he had zero obligations to do so. He must just enjoy happy customers.

If your build isn't by the numbers and are looking at aftermarket ignition, I highly recommend giving Progression Ignition a look!

That's good news, but any idea why the carbon button had burned off in only 18 months?

I've been looking at these distributors but I'm a long way from Florida if there was an issue.

I can't pinpoint the cause. It could be user error on my part as I have had the cap off once or twice when I initially installed it. But unsure.

Ted said to make sure that when I put the cap on that it feels like "spring loaded" against the rotor, which this one definitely does.

It could have had a bad connection for some time, and the arcing across just finally blasted it and that was it.

Starts very quickly now.

Could you post picture of the burnt crater?
Yep. Black cap is my "crater", the red cap pic is from the inter webs, but what the new cap button looks like.

I am about to assemble my car with a fresh build 440 using the Progression distributer. Any things I need to know or is it as easy as the marketing?
