Thanks everyone!
I know I've been absent for a while for the most part (some find that refreshing, I'd bet), so apologies...
I'll skip the usual retrospective crap we do sometimes on such occasions (been tons of that going on in light
of recent events in my life) and instead, I'll offer an observation of a phenomena that's uniquely due to social
media - namely, sites like this one that announce when it's someones' birthday.
That triggers mostly good things, as it should - reminders to most others to remember what should be a happy event.
"Most", anyways...
I had a couple folks contact me out of my past today, however, that took the reminder as a way to reach out to me
not to wish a birthday greeting but to reconnect and attempt to somehow reignite some old contest of wills we'd had
at some point in history - to see if I'd "seen the light" over time.
Oy...
"Ed, love you, mean it - but I wanted to make sure you understood...."
Both were met with the internet equivalent of the "talk to the hand" response from me, fast and cold.
"Don't re-open old wounds" I said. Doesn't matter now, wasn't a big deal even then...not interested.
In light of recent life events, I simply am devoid of any more ability to hear from anyone wanting to point out
my supposed weaknesses. Save it, man. Ain't gonna "fix" anything even if they were right...
I'm so very, very done. And exhausted - which is why I just went home and fired up the Social Security process.
Tank is finally empty, so after 64 years we'll ride this out the rest of the way not answering anytime anyone barks.
I'm trying to get used to this. I think I'm going to like it, other than the abject poverty of retirement.
Sure is quiet these days - much needed!
THANKS EVERYONE!
