Having the Factory radiator re-cored??

Bob at Glen-Ray told me he has a good old Mopar radiator he has in his car. A 500(?) C.I. motor with A/C and he says it cools it all day long.

Do any of these places actually offer boiling of the radiators to free up any clogged passages?

If anyone lives in Massachusettes, I have decided to take my original 26 inch radiator that has never been repaired in for a re-coreing to: Harry Heitin Radiator, which has been in business since 1951! he told me on the phone that the new cores come from Maine, and a cleaning would not be the best way to go since Chrysler radiators have small tubes, he also would upgrade to a 3 row it looks like most and mine are 2 row, so all that work and money upgrading would be a no brainer for me. Right now after a flushing the 318 runs at 200 to 210 deg. at 90 outside temp at 70MPH. with a 3:23 rear end. It had been much hotter on the highway before, so I gave it a good flushing including the heater core. It's time to rebuild for reliability and make the entire drive line system new again, this would be the last part that has never been rebuilt. with 160k on the car. You can see the tubes looking in the radiator cap, opening that it needs a new core, some white sediment is stuck in the tubes. Also the cooling fins are crushed a bit here and there, so why not. At about $500.00 or less with a nice new core, correct paint job included its worth it for peace of mind. Located in Worcestor MA, Tel: 508 754-6020.I should have this done about the end of October when I stop driving the car for the year. I will keep everyone updated on my project.

God bless you OEM guys.I put a $200 Afco aluminum triple pass and it works great!

I paid exactly the same $$ to triple core mine and freshen it up on the 68 440. Runs very cool with a 180* stat in it. The weather has cooled off considerably in the past couple of weeks. Had it done by Toms Radiator in Anoka, MN. Looks nice and runs nice.

Yesterday I delivered my original 26 inch two row Chrysler radiator from my 73 Charger to: Harry Heitin Radiators in Worcestor MA. 86 Grafton St. I will be getting a three row core larger tubes, out of Maine. Price is $565.00 or less, painted with a semi gloss water based paint. Next week I should be picking it up, Pictures to come later. He is well known and in business since 1951. A two row with larger tubes also is about $490.00 Mine was running hotter on the highway 210 to 220 or more sometimes. It should be around 200 deg.

Going out on a test run today, with the new re-cored three row in my 26 inch original tanks rad! I ran it up yesterday in the garage it took an extra 1/2 gal because of the third row. After running for 20 min all air out the temp gauge showed about 185 to 190 no more. The gauge has lines between 160 180 200 etc. In for testing and will remove after this last road test today and reconnect thee gauge in the cluster. Anyway, the bottom rad hose was the coolest it has been in many years. barley warm! We all know it's much more efficient than before. When I picked up the new re-done core the old core was on the floor with a lot of white residue mineral deposits and almost all the tubes had crap in them, I would estimate that at least 50 % of the old rad was clogged up. This is 46 years holding liquid with many ant-freeze changes and flushes too. if I went with a two row I would be fine like the original design, but for about 75.00 more I went with the upgrade. Pics coming soon

The total cost with tax was $568.00 ,300.00 for the core 250.00 labor 200 miles for two trips and gas. Painted to look original, new valve and polished trans line connectors and one 2018 calendar of the shop.

Test drove yesterday min 25 min one way back roads with a stop than back to the house. Great heat out the vents,it was 45 deg. yesterday. The engine temp was 190 if that. I shut off the engine and touched the bottom hose it was very, very cool to the touch. Where as before all this it was warm and sometimes only a little cooler. So everything is back to normal and the car is finally like a new Charger again.

HERE IS THE NEW RE CORED RADIATOR, THREE ROW STUFFED INTO THE ORIGINAL TANKS, IT RUNS AT LEAST 25 DEG. COOLER THAN THE CLOGGED UP 46 YEAR OLD CORE.TOTAL COST 568.00
