Hi.

This saga begins in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii about 14 years back when I was in high school. My best friend and I were into cars. We hung out at a garage with a guy who was and still is heavy into Mopars only. Even before all this me and my dad were into dodge trucks. So my best friend and I went every day after school to this garage and worked on cars. One of the cars my friend acquired was this 1970 dodge coronet super bee clone from his sister who drag raced it and got it from the guy that has the garage we go to. So the high school years go on and we have fun in this car going to the races and harassing the town. I always loved cruising in the car and fell in love with old school mopar muscle cars especially this particular car. Then after high school the car was put into storage. In a warehouse under a car cover.

Fast forward a couple of years past college. I get married to the most amazing woman and my best friend was my best man. A little while after this I was inquiring about the car and what he wants to do with it. A few more years go by with a little pestering from me every now and then. So finally a month ago my friend says "you want to buy the coronet?" And I was like "hell ya". So now I gotta get the money together and get her to my house. Deal was made and I got the tow truck guy and she went to her new home....Mine :glasses10:.

As of now I got her started after 12 years or so of sitting. I pre oiled the engine by removing the distributor and cam drive gear and using the priming tool which I made using a mopar small block cam drive gear with the gear cut off and welded a pushrod from the same engine on the top. Used a drill counter clockwise and then hit it. Oil pressure came right up no problem (this was with new oil of course). All this before I even attempted to turn the engine over. Ok enough of this story time for some video's and a few pics. Please leave comments or suggestions.

very cool project, best of luck with your new toy/clone

Awesome and it does not appear to have much rust for a car in the islands like that.

It has some but very manageable. I want to kill the rust and leave the car as is for the time being for nostalgia's sake.

nice car. always liked the 70 style. the painted bumpers are a nice touch also.

Looks like a great project but I have to say what really caught my attention was your post marks a real generational shift. When most of us on here talk about getting interested in cars in high school, the phrase clone doesn't come up. :) Then I saw you found this car 14 years ago, and that was only 2000 and there were a lot of clones out by then. Made me realize how frigging old a lot of us are getting. :)

Ya we are all getting older..... I was 16 when me and my friend first messed around with this car. How time flies.

Here are some recent pics after a nice cut and buff job. 10394072_10101091657885836_2219749521638723117_n.jpg15770_10101086581788376_1791909382177511014_n.jpg10526106_10101086582012926_754807093489854702_n.jpg1908389_10101090850488866_4479228892642320496_n.jpg10613036_10101090850433976_7352960751410209620_n.jpg10457859_10101090850598646_6366028998895106172_n.jpgIMG_3234.jpg

I always wondered what my 70 Bee would look like with painted bumpers. Its looks sharp. Good luck & take good care of her

Like Darius, I'm amazed at how rust free this Coronet is after being in Hawaii all this time. When I was living there, I would see cars that were less than ten years old that were complete rust buckets. It cleaned up real well. Have fun driving the hell out of it.

she cleans up nicely

Just ordered a Wizard cooling radiator with shroud. Should be on the road soon :D

Very cool story and car! Good to see Mopar runs deep on the island!

I wish I see more old school mopars on the road. I see maybe 2 a year here which is about how many Vipers I see here as well.

Thank you. Couldn't have done it without my friends.
