Hawk's Cross Country 70 Road Runner Trip

LOL, that happens to me all the time - lots of threads here on FBBO to try and keep up with!

It's hard to believe that was 10 years ago. But I will say the trip was one of the most epic events in my life. Since then, I did another one in 2022 with my 73 Road Runner - this time both ways with over 11,000 miles. And then I did 2,200 miles on the Power Tour with my 70 in 2023. All these trips were so much fun. I highly recommend folks get out with their cars and drive them on some trips. It doesn't have to be cross country, but even a long weekend is super cool. It is an adventure and a great way to see our great country! :usflag:
When I first bought my 66 Belvedere in 88, I took it out on short runs mainly to find out what might need attention and much to my surprise, it didn't need much. The factory AC was down but still had some pressure so added some freon and it worked nicely. Put on decent wheels and tires, tuned up the engine and hit the road. Didn't go cross country with it but had no problem with going 100 miles out and drove it to work quite often and even drag raced it! It only let me down one time to where I had to leave it (happened inside the plant) because the alternator hot wire found ground and blew the fusible link.
lmao........ I have no idea about watch boxes and email alerts......

and I intend to keep it that way
Well, if I'm wanting to keep up with a certain thread and know I'm not going to be on the site much, I like to click on the 'watch and receive email' tab to let me know when someone makes a post. Then all I have to do is click on the 'view this thread' button in the email and bingo, I'm there. You only get one email (at least on mine) but it will stay at the top with each new post.

I grill with Charcoal and I have plenty of Mesquite and Hickory! None of that Dinosaur
farts in a can!
Same here.....but most of the wood I use to cook with (charcoal included) is pecan and oak but will use Mesquite and Hickory when I get the chance to acquire it. Seems everyone and their sister jumps on that stuff pretty fast and the stores that sell it around here want your left nut in trade.

Well, I wasn't doing anything useful so I decided to go through your trip thread, too. Truly an awesome journey! This is something that I am going to do when I retire with my car. The only difference will be I won't have to stick to a schedule. I"LL BE RETIRED!!! LOL!
Also, I will be visiting friends and relatives that live all over the place. It will just require a lot of planning to have everything make sense. I applaud your planning and ability to fix things on the fly.

I did a lot of driving with my car back in my Navy days (65,000 miles in 2 years) but all of it east of the Mississippi. And that was back in 84-86. Completely bone stock car with no issues during all of that.

Just reading at the end of this thread, I take it your plans for another 2020 trip got shot down with the current situation. That really bites!

Hope to meet up with you in the coming year and get to talk about your next adventure.
I got my first car in late 68 early 69....a 66 Belvedere and laid just over 40k miles on it the first year lol. I was making good money and there were times where I filled the tank 3 times within a week! And working 35 miles from home a lot helped with all of that!

So, When Hawk stopped by the first time, my GTX was on the rotisserie at my friends body shop. The second time he stopped by
the car was being painted. since then most of the car is assembled except for the seats and carpet, doors, fenders and hood.
Life's a Bitch! Listening to you Guys keeps the ball rolling and I never quit learning!
