I finally got my 69 satallite wagon started and running, but found its dripping from under the dash.
I bypassed it for now but was looking for some advise. Does that mean the core is bad or is there some other component like a hose or something in up there that could be bad? Mine is a 318 AC car.
I was also wondering if anyone had some pictures of what it should look like under the hood? Mine has kinda a funny looking valve that doesnt seem to be hooked to anything on the line that comes from the firewall to the waterpump. then from firewall it has a hose that loops and goes to another section of the firewall.... doesnt look original to me.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sorry, I try to read every post but sometimes I miss some.

Question one......Does this car have FACTORY A/C?

There is a water valve on the firewall and is (probably) another that is in the center of the dash.....you might be able to see it looking in to the center A/C vent. This valve is operated by the flap in the center of the dash that shuts to close off the cold air. What this valve does is route water through the center of the heater core. The core looks like two NON-A/C cores put together end to end. When the valve on the firewall opens water flows through the perimeter of the core making a donut. The second valve lets water flow through the center of the cores (donut hole).

All that said, there is a possibility the core itself isn't bad. It could be that secondary valve, or the hoses that attach it. Lastly, the valve on the firewall has a simple rubber seal that is actually INSIDE the car when mounted to the firewall. If that seal goes bad, then you'll have water leaking inside the car.

Bet you know more than you ever really wanted to know now.

Cool thank you for the info....
I guess that loop of heater hose that goes back and forth from the firewall is suposed to be there... i looked at an AC 383 car that was on ebay and it had it too...
There is a valve inline with one of the long heater hoses (under the hood) that looks like it should have a cable hooked to it or something, im thinking that isnt suposed to be there?
Maybe this weekend ill try and disassemble the heater box and see whats leaking. Do you have any diagrams or pictures of how it comes apart or is put together?

wow...
I just scored a complete ac/heater box, ac control, and the water valve at the car show for $130. He said it wasnt leaking when he removed it... hopefully out of all the parts i have and the new stuff i can make one good setup.

uh oh....
I was just comparing parts and i think i might have made a mistake.
The car the parts came off of was a 70 and mine is a 69. I thought they would be the same but it looks like there is some differences. the watervalve off the 70 has a little vacum pot on it like a vacum advance...?.
Does anyone know if ill be able to use these parts and where that is suposed to go to? what other differences will i need to look out for?

You might need this if its the right one

Can you see where its leaking from? Advice given is good. Something tells me that its the core leaking.
