What year vehicle are you speaking of? Most of the older B bodies I am familiar with don't have any requirements for anything on the firewall other than body plugs for the heater hoses as everything else is under the dash. That is the way it is on my 66. If it has the blower motor mounted in the engine compartment then the will be a block off plate on the firewall.
All I have seen just had a block off plate and a vent box with out the heater part on it. They can be hard to find so I made my own. Just cut the heater box part off and then used some of it to fill in the hole.
