Just purchased a 1968 RR and looking for help registering it since it’s from out of state. There’s no trim tag and I was told I need to have the VIN verified with two forms of proof. The trim tag is missing, is there a registry that can be accessed using the VIN? Or is there another option?

Welcome to FBBO from SoCal as well. What part of SoCal are you from?

Hey Alex I'm in SoCal too. The trim tag missing is no problem (unless you mean the VIN tag, then that's a whole different story). Go to the Map app on your phone and type in "auto registration service." These are private individuals or companies who are licensed by DMV. They can do the VIN verification, which basically means they look at the VIN plate then fill out a form and give it to you. Costs roughly $25. If the car doesn't run you can find someone that does mobile VIN verifications & they'll come right to you. Once you have that form take it to DMV along with the title and you're good to go.

A partial VIN is stamped on radiator core support and driver side trunk gutter.

Welcome aboard from NJ. Can you post up a picture or two for us to ogle?

Welcome from somewhere between Pasadena and Irvine..

True, just trying to coach him up on local rules. In a normal case they don't go that far here. If he's missing the VIN or title that's a whole other conversation..

welcome aboard and thanks for joining the Forum!

Howdy from Oregon. Up here out of state cars go to the DMV for inspection, VIN to Title must match thats it. California? maybe take it to the CHP and have them veify. The Trim tag/ Data plate wont have the VIN, just option codes.
