Hello from NE Missouri

I just wanted to check in and introduce myself. I'm a small-town attorney from NE Missouri. I have two boys (ages 9 and 11) who are starting to get interested in Muscle Cars. I'm using their interest as an excuse to find a late-60s car to buy and drive. I've (somewhat) convinced my wife that buying a cool old car will be a bonding experience for me and my sons.

I've always been a MOPAR guy, although I do appreciate other cars, as well. My first car was a 1968 Coronet 440 I got when I was 14. I bought it from the original owner-- it was in great shape. I drove the hell out of that car (as teenage boys do) and sold it four years later to buy a Suzuki Samurai... not the smartest move I ever made. It's crazy to think what I would pay to have that particular car back, but I'm pretty sure it was crushed years ago.

I love this site and am learning a ton on here. Thanks for all the info.

Hi John, I did the same with my son and it did really turn out great. He wasn't there every time a turned a bolt but as time went on he was always there when the big jobs needed to be done... pulling a motor, pulling a tranny and when ever I needed a third hand.

After I bought the car I said "Lookup Dodge Coronet on Google" there was some pictures on the screen and I said "What do you think of the bad *** car?" he says "its allright I guess" (he really had never seen one up close). Then when the car showed up and he was able to see it in person it really grew in him, I've also been able to MOPAR brainwash him over time. Now he is a "MOPAR OR NOCAR" bonafide, card carrying member!

John, you will have a blast with your boys and the car, just wait though, the day is coming when the dreadful question is asked: "Dad, you think I could take the car out tonight?" That about kills me every time, and is followed by a 5 minute lecture on driving and how much time and effort we have in this car.

Have a blast searching, finding and working on your new bad *** muscle car. What kind of cars have you been looking at? Is it going to be a full stock resto? mod?

Welcome aboard! I've actually got my daughter into Mopars! She loves them! So, it's true, it is a bonding expirience! Plus she wants her own muscle car, Mopar of course. She's only 13 too!

cryplydog-- Where are you located in NE MO? I'm in Shelbina.

MT_Mopar-- I'm primarily looking to have a car we can drive and enjoy. I'm not looking for a super high-end show car, although they're fun to look at. I want to be able to drive the car and not stress out too much. I'd like the car to at least appear somewhat stock. I'm looking for either a 68-70 Roadrunner/GTX or a 68-69 Super Bee. (I also know of a fairly straight '66 Tri-power GTO sitting in a barn wasting away that I'd rescue today if the owner would part with it... or return my phone calls).

Realistically, I'll probably be ready to buy something in late spring or early summer, unless the right opportunity comes along sooner. Until then, I'm learning as much as I can.

I'm brand new to this site and my story is the same as yours: I convinced my wife that a 69 Super Bee would be a great bonding project with my 15 year old son and we are having a blast: Even though he want to get a 68-70 Mustang......

My car is still way cooler!!
