My name is Tyler & I'm working on a 73 Plymouth RoadRunner. I'm running a 440 with reverse patteren 727 & dana 60 with 4.10's. My trouble recently is with a tranny leak that just started at of the blue - dripping from the bottom front of bell housing, has a light drip when idleing, but when you put into first gear, dumps a gush of tranny fluid out? Do I have a bad pump seal or worse?

welcome

Have you done anything to the trans/engine reciently? Does it have to be hot or cold when it leaks?

Likely suspects I'd check in this order-

Pan gasket

Dip stick O ring

torque converter fill/drain plug

input shaft seal

Welcome to the site! Post some pics when you get a chance.

Welcome to FBBO from hot, dry & sunny NorCal

post this in another appr. forum section,
General discussion or Engine trans Driveline sections
maybe it will get far more views that way,
this is the Welcome wagon,
it's not really intended as a Q&A or tech discussion section...

good luck

Just spit-balling here, unless the trans is in a gear or neutral,
there's no real pressure coming from the front pump,
probably why it's just a trickle when it's just idling,
before it's in gear, than the pump is fully engaged & pushing fluid out,
sounds like at a min. the pump seal to the converter is shot,
maybe the gasket under the pump housing is bad now too...

Could be over full and pumping out of the vent, check the fluid in neutral, engine idling, car on a flat surface.
