Hi Everyone,
I rescued this '74 Charger from the fields of middle Georgia and after a week + about $120, she's ready for the road:

I have the hubcaps safely stored in the trunk plus 4 BF Goodrich tires on the way

I need a little help and will probably post this in another forum: I'm losing fuel uphill. She always restarts facing downhill and only stalls uphill. I'd like to know/confirm if it is possible for the fuel pickup in the tank to come loose or to be dislocated and cause this issue before I drop the tank & make a mess. Thanks everyone.

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! That car certainly doesn't look as though it was sitting in any field a week ago! Very nice! It's not that big of a deal to drop the tank, unless it's full, so siphon it out if it is and have it cleaned out/boiled, it likely would need it anyway if its been sitting for a long time. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the welcome fellas.

A few words about this car: it's a 318 2bbl, bench seat, basic gauges, 3 spd auto, original paint, interior, engine and trans. The previous owner owned it since 1991 and had it sitting in a hangar (along with 5 other mopars) for the past 9 or 10 years. He drained the fuel tank and cooling system when he parked it. I've basically just put a fuel pump & filter in, a ballast resistor and a battery and changed the engine oil & filter.

I suspect a fuel pickup problem for a few reasons: I can fill the carb bowl, the line to the pump and the line from the pump to the tank manually and it will run fine until that fuel is spent if you're facing uphill. It was delivered by the towtruck with the nose uphill and took me 8+ gallons before the new fuel pump was pulling from the tank. I leak checked the line with my mightyvac and it holds 10" of vacuum or so so I don't suspect the line is drawing air. Once I turned the car so the nose was downhill, it runs fine with about 7 gallons in the tank and I can see the filter stays full of fuel. Turn it back around and the filter drains and the engine stalls.

Maybe this is caused by some other problem (carb related?) but I suspect a pickup problem.

Here are a few more pics of where she was:

I have to say the fields of middle Georgia do keep cars well considering the ones axle deep in mud here in Pa. lol.. Very nice, and welcome to FBBO!

Welcome to the FBBO forum

You don't see to many sitting out in a field that are worth hauling home, at least in Washington state. Lucky find.

I see it came with a tow hitch on the rear bumper...I guess it,s so you can tow your next great find home!!!Nice!!!

Are you sure the carbs bowls are full? Might have a float issue.Might be worth checking first.Chances are the tank had some rust and crud in it.

check the old rubber fuel lines by the tank could be dry rotted and sucking air going uphill

welcome, that's the cleanest car i ever saw come out from a field.nice find.

Welcome to the site. Hope you enjoy the site as much as we all do.
