We really need more info. Is it Red or Pink? The only Red wire on the back of the gauges is the ammeter. My 72 FSM shows no pink wires going to the cluster.
The red wire on the right side of the cluster by the ashtray is for the ammeter. It should be a heavier wire than the rest, except for the black wire that goes to the ammeter. The red wire on the left side towards the door is the high beam indicator. Don't mix up the two wires. The ammeter wire comes from the engine compartment and the black ammeter wire goes to the rest of the electrical system for main power. I have the 73 ralley schematics witch is basically the same for 71 and 72. They didn't change much on the ralley cluster from 71 to 74. Let me know if you need them.
Here is a pic of the 72 Rallye gauge wiring diagram. The only wire not labeled is the y connector from the voltage limiter to both the temp gauge and oil gauge. Could this be it?
