Working on this now. Inspecting my front drum brakes. Took off the hub. Can't get the backside bearing or seal out. Ideas?

Also, the bearings have lots of play in them, is that normal?

Take a small hammer handle, stick it through the hub and knock out the bearing. The seal will come with it.
Bearings are kind of loose when removed. Look for pitting on them and the races. Clean all the old grease out of them with solvent and repack. Buy new seals. Numbers should be on the old seal. Take one along to the parts store.

Get two blocks of wood set the hub down on them face up and use a long drift punch and knock the bearing out and the seal will come with it.

Another way is to put the spindle nut back on after the outer bearing is removed, let it get past the outer race until it contacts the inner bearing, give yourself a little slack then yank a couple of times. Both the bearing and seal will come together.

I tried that one but it didn't seem to work and I wasn't sure how much muscle to apply. I originally thought I wanted to reuse the seals but realized I wasn't going to be able to. Getting new ones this morning. Doing it right.

That's the way I do it. Just work the drift around the perimeter while lightly tapping.

Always used this method with great success...
