Ok i started getting my dash ready to remove because I'm doing a standard to Ralley conversion and nacho said it is easier to just pull whole dash.assembke.,wire and re install dash, well my.issue is in the point of removing and in hooking the multi point plug behind fusebox going into firewall instead of what I thought was going to be a big plug in turn is a bunch of different plugs. Wowza. I'm not sure what plug goes where. Does anyone have an exploded view of it all hooked up or have a reference other than just a wiring diagram. Also I'm fixing to buy a complete harness for a 400. Can I use that engine harness on a 318 motor. I'm sure some wires are different bit can't be too many. All help is appreciated?

It is certainly NOT easier to remove the whole dash.

You are quintupling (or more) the work.

You can simply extend the wires from the standard harness to where they need to be...all with only the cluster removed.

About 10 feet of 16g wire and about 18 inches of 12g.

A box of crimp on spade lug terminals.

A box of bullet terminals.

Probably under $25 versus a new harness for a couple hundered or a used one that may have problems.

What you mean extend the standard harness?,I thought a Ralley harness had to be used for a Ralley gauge because standard and Ralley are completely different

Here's what it looks like from the back side.

This is a standard dash on my "work bench", and it has a rallye cluster sitting in it.

The two large plugs you see near the center of the pic are the two main things that need attention.

The gray plug is the cluster light and gauge connections, and needs to have it's pins "broken out" into individual wire runs. You will need to add some orange light wires because the standard harness has one wire in that round connector that powers several bulbs, and the rally cluster uses individual runs. Fortunately, just to the left of the pic, is a three way light splitter (bullet connector) that only has one of the three in use.

The black plug is the wiper connections, and needs to have it's wires extended so they reach the rally wiper switch location. You can see the switch over on the right.

I just happen to have an extra dash, so I thought I'd mock mine up.

All of this should be real easy to do with the dash still in the car.

In fact, I'm making an effort to not cut any factory wires. I'm sure I'll be successful on that.

I'm just making extensions with male connectors on one end and females on the other.

The gray plug is the most difficult to do, but I found a van at a JY with the same connector, so I can use the pins from that.

I'm taking the black wiper plug off (without cutting the wires), and plan to move it to the end of my extension.

Plan A is to find a donor plug, so the spade connectors can stay clipped in. If not I can live without the plastic housing.

So the grey round plug needs to be broken loose into individual wires and then new wires run to each component? I have a bad *** color coded wiring diagram that should tell me what each wire is for. I have all correct connectors that are on my trashed ralkey harness.me and as far as wipers that because wiper switch is on left now insteadnof the right. Dude your helping me so much. Please email me any photo help you can to sdh1120@yahoo.com. you Dont know how excited this makes me.

Note that the headlight switch is already plugged in, and needed no modifications.

What is the bullet connector for?,I don't guess I'm seeing it. Maybe I'm blind

I actually pulled whole dash cause my bulkhead and fuse box were jacked. Actually didn't take long at all?

he will replace the dash pad too, so make it comfortable on the bench with cluster assembly on place is better and would make both jobs at the same time. With the advantage of get the right measurements on each splice as needed with everything on place

( If he decides not to use the 73 rallye harness already got needing some fix, instead convert the standard harness of its car )

I don't get the main question... engine bay side to firewall bulkhead conector got keys and slots so there is just one place for each plug. No way to conect them wrong
