Can anyone identify this part? Its under the dash of my 73 roadrunner 340 with AT and console. Its not the blinker flasher and its not the seat belt buzzer - those are both accounted for. It has uninterrupted 12Vs to it and is always very warm to the touch as long as the battery is hooked up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wondered that my self. My 73 Charger has one and it gets very hot.
Not hazard flasher and not turn signal which is by the ash tray anyway.
I can't find it on the schematic either. I would be interested in what it is as well. :icon_scratch:

Unplug it and see what happens? Just a thought.

I think I answered my own question. I believe it is an ignition key lamp time delay relay (say that three times fast!). Used 68-79. Apparently optioned cars had a small light in the ignition switch which stayed on for about 20 seconds after closing the door so that you could find it in the dark. Can anyone confirm this?

does the car have power windows? It looks just like my power window relay which also gets quite warm.

I went thru the same thing a few years ago and couldn't figure out what the hell it was. so i replaced it, and voila! there was the little light above the ignition switch! (68 GTX btw)

Yep, reply I got over at DC.com was:
Ignition switch time delay relay , in there is a bimetallic strip when it heats up after a few seconds it brakes the circuit , lamp goes off . If it gets warm or hot , as in burn finger hot (no joke) is malfunctioning , disconnect it & replace it ASAP

That is interesting. We have the ignition light but no relay. Must went bad at some point in time. Good info.

Huh! And still available through Chrysler. Was most recently used in the Viper line!!!!

The old one just cuts out, I'll bet the newer version fades off ... better yet!!!!!!!!!!:icon_cheers:

Just FYI these old time delay relays are usually bi metal construction like a signal flasher. It will be thermally hot the whole time the power is on breaking the contact.

But like can't-hold-on-to-it hot?
