I'm having a hard time deciding what ignition system to go with and it seems from reading past threads on here it depends what you plan on doing with your car. My car is a '69 RR auto 383, stealth heads, Edelbrock RPM intake, Holley 770 street avenger carb, comp cams XE275HL. The car will be street driven and I might take it to the strip once or twice just to see what it can do but it is a street car.

The car had a chrysler electronic dizzy, with the standard electronics chrome box, 4 pin ballast. I'm thinking I was just going to get a MP dizzy from Summit but I've also been reading about FBO's stuff as well. If I just bought the MP dizzy from Summit is there anything I should do or need to know before I try and run it?

Why don't you just keep the Chrysler distributor, add an orange box and a good coil? You can recurve the distributor to suit your needs.

Well I don't have one yet so I open to suggestions. I heard the Standard boxes were actually more reliable than the orange box but I could be wrong I don't have any experience with either. I only drove my car when I bought it about 50 miles and that's when the engine stopped building pressure. What would you consider a good coil for the Chrysler set up?

I'm a huge fan of the MSD Blaster 2 coil. I'ld put it on my lawnmower if I could. If you don't have an ignition set up yet, then I would say either the Mopar Performance set up or a complete MSD ignition.

forgive me rev for i have sinned......it has been 35 years since my last confession....AAAAAAAAAANYWAY...a few months ago i purchased a Petronix dizzy from Summit. i ordered the dizzy for a 383...which is what is in my 70 RR...AND THE DAMN THING WAS HITTING THE CYLINDER HEAD AND WOULDNT SEAT ALL THE WAY DOWN......with that said......i would go with the Chrysler dizzy....personally...i kept the point distributor!......AMEN !

Say two Hail Hemis and repent.
I've done the Pertronix conversion on quite a few dizzies but never use one of there distributors. It's my option for keeping a stock looking motor, well, stock looking. All others get either the MSD or the Mopar Performance. Or, in the case of the factory Chrysler electronic units, I keep those. (It's basically what the Mopar Performance ones are).

Please PM me your address so I can send you a bill for the monitor I just spit coffee all over.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!......oh my goddddddd................my RIBSSSSS!!!!:moparts ghost:

I didn't realize just how biblical electronic ignition is, lol. Both the electronic dizzys I have are dirty and rusted so I'll probable just get a new MP dizzy and be done with it. Basically my set up when I bought the car was a factory Chrysler set up that I think someone must have pulled out of a newer car. With the Blaster 2 coil and MP dizzy do I need the ballast and I'm guessing from your last post the orange box is recommended? The new harness I bought is one of those M&H harnesses that are already wired for electronic ignition, so I say praise the Rev for all that has been said and let me wisk away to the heavenly clouds and find that which I seek.

Yes my flock, you still run the ballast, lest yea wish to do the Converse shuffle to the nearest temple of all things parts to replace the holy ECU.

"Our Rev hendo..who aint in heaven,:hello2:
hallowed be your name.Your kingdom come, your will be done,on the track-as it is on the street.Give us this day our daily horsepower, and forgive us our debts,..(i dont owe you money, do I ?)
as we also have forgiven our debtors...(thats a falicy)
And lead us directly into temptation, but deliver us from the evil fairer sex"AMEN...AND Whhhhhoooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa BUNDYYYYYYYYYY

The mp distributor is fine. Get the updated reluctor wheel from summit, also make sure the vacuum pot matches your idle vacuum. If it does have low idle vacuum you can buy a replacement pot for 20.00 that works with low manifold vacuum. The MSD system is tops, but if bucks prevent it mp is really still good.
