I picked up a T bar from an another distributor and am looking at shortening the slots.
This T bar came from a small block distributor, I think???
There is an identification mark on the top side that says R17 and a mark on the bottom that says L17.
As you can see the advance slots are on an angle, so I'm assuming it's directional.
Do I need to flip the T bar for it to work on a RB engine?
Am I right in thinking the L17 should be on top?
Does anyone know for sure?
I searched the forum and also searched the web but I'm not seeing any reference to this.

Thanks, Mark

Mark can you tell us what you are attempting to do with it. What your working on.
I got to shorten up the advance slots so I can limit the mechanical advance to 14* for an RB motor, so that's why I'm asking about the R or L side of the plate.
I'm thinking R for righthand/clockwise rotation and L for lefthand/counterclockwise rotation, but I'm not sure.

cant you change the springs in the distributor to do that? Im no pro just asking.

The springs will change the rate of advance, how quick the advance will come in at. This modification will change how much advance the distributor will have.

can you fill and drill the holes to modify the old one? Or is the new t bar set for 14*

I don't want to modify the original distributor for the car, I would rather try and make this work instead

Well, I flipped the plate over. The slots follow the direction of the advance, so it kinda makes sense to me. I will weld up the ends of the slots tomorrow and file them to .375" long. That should get me to 10* of mechanical advance. I'll put in 24* initial for 34* total timing and deal with the vacuum advance when it's on the road.

Anytime you have distributor questions try contacting @HALIFAXHOPS on here.

I have to figure out a way to limit my vacuum advance on my dual point Mallory. I believe they used to offer different cans but if they did they're not available anymore. Mine is almost off the scale with my mild build. I'll probably end up lengthening the arm. I've adjusted it all the way, resulting in the screw becoming disengaged.

Yup up to the 15 mark they can go either way after that they go on a angle and are R/L/ specific.

What number you looking for I have a ton of them from parts distribs. I would not flip that over they are kind of hard to get.

That would work on this application fine!

I needed something that will put 18 advance to the crank and I'll run my initial at 16 or 18. I did manage to flip the yoke over so now the slots appear to be in the right direction, so I'll weld it up and try it. Thanks for your offer
