What size are the speakers supposed to be that fit on the door panel?
on my Roadrunner their smaller than their supposed to be, and the previous owner just re-drilled holes for them.

Thanks.

Door panel? As far as I know, there were only three speakers used in these cars. Two in the package tray, one in the front in the dash. The backs were 6x9's, and the front was some weird size.

Many people install aftermarket speakers in the doors.

Alright thanks,
Yeah ive got a pair of 6x9's and ive ordered a new package tray.
ill messure it up and figure it out soon.

I agree. The front was something like a 4X9 or something weird. I personally dont like the speakers in the door thing on these old cars.

True.. I want my car to look original. but i pretty much need to put speakers there now since there will be a hole if i do not.

It doesnt look back so long as you dont make it look gaudy. I have seen people make a custom plate for the front speaker and cram two 3'' speakers or something like that.

In addition, on my 73 RR(STL plant), and my friends 72 Satty(Canadian plant), both have the drivers side speaker slightly smaller than the passenger side. Like the one side is a 6x9 and the other is an 5.75x8.75. Not that they used a weird speaker, but the hole is definitely different.

The front dash speaker is a 4x10. I made a custom bracket and mounted 2- 4 inchers there and they sound alot better than the original.

Or you can put new lower door panels on if you dont want the hole visible. Just a thought.

Yeah that's what im figuring out, and in the next few weeks ill be working on the interior more, it needs interior work, although its in very good condition. I picked up a back seat a few nights ago for a steal locally. The front and rear seats need to be re-upholstered, the heater needs fixing, lights in the dash, and a couple other smaller things.

Along the same lines...electronix geniuses out there... I have a Craig Powerplay Quadraphenia player (8 track on steroids), still works, and I want to know.... with today's speakers being what they are..how in the heck do you wire this thing up to actually work so you can hear it? I could probably figure it out on hit and miss, but since this thread was started,

I thought I'd hijack it...lol

As far as I know, you would wire it up exactly as how you would wire any speaker. I use a Sanyo 8 Track/FM myself. My dad wants a modern JVC but I wont let him.

You can and should be able to. I'm keeping my original AM/FM with a floor mounted cassette. I want a MP3 player jack and I think I'll mount the jack for it in the ash tray, to keep it hidden.

There are those FM modulators out there. Not the crappy transmitters, but a hardwired thing you piggyback into your sound system. All you would have showing would be a black headphone wire
