Hey folks need some identifying help. I got a seat of high back bucket seats that are for a 1970 Plymouth Road runner, GTX or Super Bird. Thing is they don't use the plastic back, from what I can tell. And the seat pivot does not have a slider thing on the outside but rather uses a T-handle that pulls up a hook that catches on the seat base center. Another truly flat out bizarre thing is the seat back had no springs. I know pictures would help but I realize now I should have taken some. It was the factory foam I tore off, real fun. It was the injection molded foam. They have the outer frame things but nothing attaching them to the back frame. And I know it was OE foam because of how I had to rip it out of the rolled over lip going around the frame.

I am trying to figure out what goes on the back of these are well as locating 2 torsion springs for the latch release. Has anyone ever ran into this? I have never seen factory seats without some kind of springs. If anyone can post a picture of the back of the front seats without the plastic panel I would appreciate it.

Not 1970 seats. They are more like 1973 with the foam on the frame like that.

I will start off by saying I am no seat expert. But I just went through this whole nightmare with my 70 roadrunner.
I got rid of the original seats 30 years ago and was running drag buckets.
I wanted to go back to factory so I found a set of seats that had the plastic backs out of something newer not sure what. The new seats I bought had the one piece foam for the back with no springs. I bought new foam and Upholstery from legendary for a 70 charger because I liked that pattern better. That new 70 foam was made to go over a set of springs. I wound up buying new springs and had to make some clips and weld them onto my seatbacks to mount the springs to the back. I think what I ended up with is really close to factory and looks very good, but was definitely a pain and aggravating. I don’t have any pictures of the bare seat frames unfortunately.. Here’s what they look like finished except for the back plastic isn’t on yet. The 70 foam I bought from legendary will definitely not work on the seatbacks that do not have the springs. The foam and covers I bought were for a 70 charger so it is possible that maybe makes a difference. Who knows.
Good luck.

All I can say is that my 70 E body didn't have the plastic backs but my 71 E car did....the 71 had the 'T' handle release and the 70 had the push button....IIRC. Had both cars for over 15 years but that was over 15 years ago....bought the 70 Challlenger in 1980 and the 'Cuda in 86. Still kicking my arse for selling the Cuda!

Well I got seat covers for the '70 and they do have the cut outs down on back side where the T-Handle goes. They not only have a frame outline not attached, but also a flat raised frame that is attached to the back. And the frame does go around the inside of the head rest. I am putting these in my '60 Fury. I am also having the back seat cover for the '70 being made in that style but for the back seat of my '60. I think it will look cool. I found and ordered the springs for a '70.

I have found seat frames for around $400.00 each but can not tell if they have not only the seat back release or springs. I think I'll attach the springs with hog rings. But that outer frame I feel will be a nightmare to attach, if I do. I have the foam and seat kits with the burlap, felt and listing wires. One thing for sure doing this is not cheap. But doing it myself will save a load. I am will to bet an upholster would charge around $15,000.00. I have new carpet, kick panels, package tray, head liner and new door panels are being made. My Fury is going to be an old school hot rod. A '65 383 and a Chrysler 833-9B and factory hurst with a Dana.
