A bit long, but interesting.
When I worked on them, quite a few different bearing companies. A lot of them were Brenco, Timken, SKF and Hyatt, but FAG, Koyo and others were often seen as well. Not once did they mention train rail cars???
Hey @Photon440 what type of wheel bearings are used on train rail cars?
How many bearings per rail car? When I worked on them, quite a few different bearing companies. A lot of them were Brenco, Timken, SKF and Hyatt, but FAG, Koyo and others were often seen as well.
The design of the bearings themselves are tapered rollers. Here's a cutaway:

They get packed with high pressure grease, one of the specifications is that the grease has to be certified to last 500,000 miles.
Each axle has a bearing on each end, so one per wheel. Not all cars have four wheels, some depressed flats can have up to a dozen. And some articulated car sets have more than one car sharing a single truck of two axles..How many bearings per rail car?
