Have another one for all you gurus. I have a 750 Holly dual feed dual pumper with the little windows on the float bowls to make it possible to see the gas in the bowl. Any idea why they would go dry when the car sits over night?
Thanks in advance as always.

leak from bowl gasket or accelerator pump or evaporation of fuel from heat i.e hot engine when you turn off the engine the temp goes up before it starts to drop while the temp goes up the fuel boils off.

the needle valve and seat are letting gas to bleed back to the tank overnight

Bad gas is my opinion. Or needle&seat. Sure there's more to come.

AS I understand things, when the fuel stabilizers were no longer added to gasoline , fuel evaporation greatly increased.....but maybe a fuel formula expert could enlighten us.....

Power Valve, Needle valve and seat.

what does that mean
the needle and seat are on top of the float bowl so the fuel would have to drain up thru the needle and seat to go back to the fuel tank not to mention that the fuel pump has a check valve for drain back if not you would need to crank a while to get fuel form the tank to the pump then the carb.

if i start my car the next day it starts right up if i wait a week it takes 30 seconds to get the gas to the carb . so that tells me the gas is bleeding back to the tank its just weird that it happens .

i hear what you are saying if you took off the fuel line at the tank and the fuel pump to drain the fuel out of the lines then crank and time how long it takes to start you will see it would take 1 to 2 minutes to start . now when the fuel evaporates it would take 30 seconds to get fuel to the carb from the fuel pump for start up.

Leaking gaskets, fuel evaporation are your likely culprits. Not anything weird here, just shitty gas...

okay i dont mind it because it gives time for the oil pressure to come up before she fires .
thank you

oil pressure is a different story so lets not go there the F.T.C fined slick 50 for false statements and that and a crap product killed them

if the power valve was bad the car would have a rich running problem
You're right! After thinking about it, I had a holley 750 double pumper on a small block 406. After sitting a few weeks it took a few cranks to get it started. It never leaked and I never gave it any thought. I figured it evaporated. On several small block 383 strokes I started using quick fuel 750 double pumpers, same thing. Learned something new today, thanks!!

i understand its a different story what i am saying is while i am cranking the motor over waiting for the fuel to get to the carb at the same time the oil pump is pumping oil to help oil the motor before the start .

oil is suspended in the galleys and have a static pressure of 1 to 4 psi when you crank your engine with in 3 seconds the pressure is 10 in 10 seconds oil is 20 or more your gage is slower than the oil pump . put a manual gage on it and you will see what i mean. it is called suspended animation of the oil . if you have ever remove an oil pan and leave the oil filter in place and walked away it would drip oil for hours if you remove the oil filter it will take about 15 to 20 min till the dripping to stop .
when i would go to replace rod and main barrings in an engine in the car / truck i would remove the filter so i didn't take a shower while replacing the barrings. if i just replaced the oil pump i would pump some grease in the oil pump then pump the new pump with grease . then when i went to start after repair i would have oil pressure in 20 to 30 seconds then let it run to temp then change oil to get the grease out.
