How can I properly repair a cut wire???

The engine and trans are out of my 1973 Charger, so I figured I better go over the wiring harness. She hasn't ran since 1981, and the wiring harness really is in pretty good darn shape. I have found a few cables that a mouse may have chewed through, been cut, etcetera. Do I just need to take the rubber coating off of the wire about 1/2 inch on each side, twist them together, sauter them, and heat shrink them? This seems like the proper way to me. I also have a new oem igniton module, voltage regulator, and ballast resistor. There are a few wires that I'm not quite sure where they go to, so i may post a few pics w/ questions.:icon_eyes:

I like to take a bare bare connector (small as possible) crimp them then solder and shrink wrap with the water tight shrink wrap (it has a glue that melts and seals in t up tight). I just don't like twisting them together because it makes an ugly bulge where the crimp keeps it clean, holds it while you solder it and looks like it could be a fusible link when your done. I'll just pull the plastic off a regular connector if I don't have a bare one laying around, I also like the shrink wrap connectors but you can't solder them.

You can buy Butt connectors that have the solder and heat shrink all built into it. I use them on all my repairs.

yep, or you could use a butt connector available at any parts store
