How do I keep cast suspension parts looking new?

Redoing the front suspension on my 70 RR and wondering if I should clear coat the new cast bits, or maybe use a cast-steel colored paint? What has worked well for you guys to keep the new fresh look?

Well that depends.....What is your purpose of the car for? Show only or cruising/driving a lot?

On my current car project I didn't sand blast as much as the last car. I used de-greaser and then etched all the rust off. Spray with Satin Clear Enamel and immediately go after it with a heat gun. It will dry before it flows smooth and it will lose the gloss. I was surprised when I tried this the first time. I tried this because the Eastwood paint were so less than durable in use and now you have the durability of Enamel. One of the best tips I stole from someone, the second was Aluminum foil for masking to touch up painted areas rather than tape. Comes off in seconds.

I used Duplicolor "Cast Iron". Buy it at Advanced

Some folks have had good luck with RPM. I've never tried it.
Maybe do a google search.

I did purchase some Eastwood Cast Gray for my third member, but haven’t tried it yet. Maybe that would work.

I think rain is really the problem. Cars that were cleaned and parts evaporusted were treated with rust inhibitor or even WD40. Cars were all driven but didn't see rain. All of those stayed nice. Storage was always good too. Heated in winter and no high humidity.

Back to the rain or wet roads, if it will see that then some sort of paint would be needed.

I like the flat clear and hit it with a heat gun. I'll have to try that sometime.

I hadn’t realized the sensitivity of this term and even apologized above. I don’t appreciate the “up yours”, especially from a moderator. I might expect it from the other mopar site, but this has always been a great group of people.
