How does everyone store their parts?

Costco shelving and 14 3 tier shelves inside 7 8x40 cargo containers. Inside stuff also goes on Costco racks in the shop and home garage
30x60 shop, got 3 walls lined with Costco heavy duty shelving, as much as I try to shop small business now I can't stay away from Costco I love that store lol. But as far as fasteners go I usually try to put them with the parts they belong, either thread them back into the part or if that's not possible put them in a sandwich bag and label it

I have all of the front end under the bench, the door panels and hardware hanging on the walls bagged and tagged, glass in the full basement, sheetmetal was in the basement, interior sold, bumpers standing in a corner, motor on stand, trans under sand blast cabinet, rear along a wall, a lot of bolts and nuts, and washers separated into compartmented plastic containers, brackets for various parts on high shelves, smaller stuff stacked on 2x4 deep shelves on walls. Trim is stored standing up in two wooden boxes 14x14x48' ,grill and headlight buckets are assembled and siting along the wall underneath a shelf on top of two HD buckets.

My ****'s everywhere. I know what's where....but it's everywhere.

Bagged & Tagged, Stuffed in the parts car (it's stored inside)

Bags, bins and totes. Larger items go in storage cabinets. Stuff that's oddball shaped - like a sway bar - gets wrapped and taped after its been refinished. Everything was refinished as it came off the car and before it got stored away. Only having one car helps avoid confusion.

6x8 shed came with the house.

Filled it. Built 8x12 shed. Filled it.

Built 30x26 pole garage. Filled it.

Bought warehouse, with 4 free 12x20 bays and 1 20x20.....

...and I'm out of room, again!

Plus there are "soft" parts out of the FL humidity in the MBR closet, and more on the screen porch.

I have found shelving and totes that can be stacked to be an efficient use of space if you have limited room. In the past only opaque totes were produced. The problem is you cannot see what is inside and they need to be labeled. I only buy clear totes now so I can see what is in them without opening every container. Regardless, I label all of them with what components are in them.

For the small items, these Plano Organizers work great. I probably have a dozen or more for screws, bolts, etc. These are available at Home Depot or Menards. If you watch for sales, I have bought them as cheap as $7 each. (Notice the clear top so you can see what is in them!!)

The key to all of this is to be able to find what you need when you need it.

So obviously a car is ALOT bigger when you take it apart. In trying to stay organized during disassembly, i typically put all the small parts and hardware in baggies with what they are written on it. But baggies are sooooo annoying sorting through later. Small shoe box size bins seem too big for most things that baggies are nice for. Those big footlocker sized totes are nice for lots of things piled in but always too short for most pieces of trim to store them safely. Do they make longer but shallow bins? And big parts like fenders or deck lids usually take up so much space they get spread out. I have two old panel trucks full of random parts from all my cars. big shelves like the mini pallet rack style shelves at lowes are great but i cant fit any more of those anywhere. I have one just full of engine blocks... How do you guys do it? Between taking a car apart and having a pile of new parts to install, some of you guys must have a pretty decent method to organize and store everything.

When I do any disassembly of anything I put the associated nuts, bolts, retainers etc in zip lock bags and attach the bag to it's related part. I also use a sharpy to write the content on the bag. Parts are either hung high in my garage, in the trunk of the car or in an outside large plastic storage bin ( originally for storing garbage from raccoons ) that sits on my deck.
