i have edelbrock heads with 84cc heads kb 237 pistons .30 bored over stock cam stock rods headmen headers wieland intake 8009...edelbrock 1407 msd ignition and i run the car on 97 octane gas...how much hp could i get...the engine is from 1973 ...and what ather mods i could do to get the hp up??

Yannick,
OK, I built a 74 block .30 over with KB quench pistons, 906 heads, Comp 484 cam, all steel, balanced with M1 and 850 DP and factory rockers. Without a good solid tuneing, the motor pulled 425. With a tune and some carb adjustments, could have pulled a bit more. I am at 5,000 feet

So - add a bit for your Edelbrock heads, not sure on your cam, etc, etc.... My guess real close to 425 +/- a bit. Its a swag unless you dyno in my opinion

can i get around thre with the stock cam?/etc??or close to 400??

There can be many answer to your questions.
There will be a wide number in h.p. depending on:
compression ratio
blueprinting
carb size, type and jetting

The best bang for your buck will be a cam change with the modifications you have mentioned but you need to match it to your total build and induction.

Why would you consider a stock cam with all those better parts?

So you want a stock idle or what is the deal? With a similar motor to yours I push 543 hp at 5700 and 560 ft lbs of tq at 4600 with over 500 ft lbs of tq from just off idle to 5700 rpm. I am using a comp 305 H cam but my whole drive train is a perfect match. It has a pretty rough idle, however, she idles "smoothly" at 750 rpm and is perfectly streetable in all weather conditions. Only problem is trying not to get into trouble with the law with that kind of power on tap. I barely press the throttle and I am absolutely flying. It's amazing.

I don't think you will come close to 375 hp with your combination. The stock cam, Weiand intake, and Edlebrock 750 are definately three things I would replace. The MP Purpleshaft 284/484, a Holley 780 - 850, and Edlebrock Performer RPM would be a good choices. I feel these changes would put you well over the 400 hp threshold.

what combo are you running john? those numbers are impressive.

While I agree with ykf in the pursuit of maximizing output by every last hp, keep this in mind. I initially had a 750 Eddy carb, but switched to the Holley 850 not wanting to lose any hp from underfeeding my motor, but I never felt any difference in performance after the swap so worry about the carburetor last. Also, I just looked at your manifold and it is not much different than my manifold. So even if there was a power difference it would likely be so marginal you would never feel the difference. If you want more horsepower with a stock sounding cam you might want to look into a supercharger.

first before you go any further, are you SURE like 100% positive those heads have 84cc chambers? last i checked i think 74cc was the largest chamber edelbrock made. now if for what ever reason you have a chamber over the size of 64cc i hope you are running a blower or a turbo bc if not you wil have such a low compression engine all your HP is gonna go out of the tail pipe. after you know exactly what you have get a hyd roller camshaft and lifters that are suggested by isky or some other reputable manufacturer (not comp cams) for your specific application. the heads are the lungs of the engine, if they are to restrictive then your engine will not breathe if they breathe to much then you wont make good use of all the air and fuel you are trying to flow

........and remember, don't smoke dope!

edelbrock heads come in either 84cc or 88cc, the stealth heads are 80cc and from what I have found the pro-comp heads have the smallest at 72CC. even with the 237 kb pistons and the 84cc eddy's you should have 9.5 to 10.0 to1 comp. you most def need a cam to help feed the heads, if you don't want the aggressive lope of a big stick for with a profile in the 280 range.
