Hooking up the alternator on a 72 SSP that I purchased in pieces. I know where the hot wire goes, but do the other to wires with blade terminals go to a specific terminal on the alternator. One wire is green and the other is blue. Can they go to either terminal on the alternator are are they specific to one or the other? Thank You.!

wire unplugs, cover broken ( either one, main output or brush wire ) and both wies makes contact some how, being both positive won't take to a short AT LEAST on that stage. I know is hard that happens BUT there is a chance.

that's at least what I have done. I have seen wires being broken at the very end of terminal. And due the heat around, wire cover broken

OK now the alternator is hooked up and while checking voltage with the engine running it sometimes shows only 12.5 volts then later it reads about 13.5 volts. Changed the voltage regulator and it still is charging only some of the time. Weird.

I had an alternator do that on my 74 Charger. It had something going on inside it with the diodes. So It could be the alternator. I'd double check the wires to and from before buying a new one though.

The Diodes purpose is to rectify (regulate...stabilize) the voltage
Also, blocks AC

The most common function of a diode is to allow an electric current to pass in one direction (called the diode's forward direction), while blocking current in the opposite direction (the reverse direction). Thus, the diode can be viewed as an electronic version of a check valve. This unidirectional behavior is called rectification, and is used to convert alternating current to direct current, including extraction of modulation from radio signals in radio receivers—these diodes are forms of rectifiers
