Hey guys, 70 RR 440 auto. Got rid of headers. Put on date coded H/P manifolds. Should I get the one piece H pipe, or run individual down pipes to mufflers & tailpipes? I’m concerned with fit & want nice deep sound.

H-pipe, have it on mine. sounds great.

X's 3 on the H pipe. You won't regret it. Make sure they don't add it burying the trans, in case you want to service parts of it and need a little room. I had them put mine a little further back on my 4 speed runner and have not regretted it. That way you can slide the trans pan out on an auto for service or the shifter adjustment on the 4 speed without fighting around the h pipe.

Yes, either h or x pipe, I have one from Pypes on my current car, and I can drop the trans easily.

why the h pipes, i assume they help equalize pressure, I'm doing hp manifolds my self, but thought about the sound of each bank of cylinders, coming from each side of the exhaust. what are the benefits from tying the two together ? just asking, wanna make the right decision

It effectively gives you a bigger pipe and muffler because you have two in parallel instead of one.
There is also some scavenging effect from the exhaust on the opposite side.
Results is a quieter tone less resonance in the car and outside. A little better low end torque.

+1, exactly the reason why.

Thank you all. What brand H pipe & exhaust you guys like, I’m looking at Pypes, Gardner, looks like some are one piece(manifold to muffler) then some have down pipes, then H pipe, mufflers & tails. $700-800 bucks with tips. My local muffler shop here in Indy can build a system w/H pipe 14 gauge 2 1/2 inch system aluminized for $500, I believe Pypes products are stainless.....
