I don't think that they had oil galleys in them to feed the hydraulic lifters. Do they?

late polys were hydraulic
my 80's sealed power catalog had the specs but even then cams were disc
bvvc on duration for that motor - it is efficient and an unusual balance between intake and exhaust

good question Dog did the early mech blocks have oiling for hyd I don't remember

i'm pretty certain they oil the same as early hemi's and they were all hydraulic lifter. the factory push rods will probably be too long.

use the hyd lifters for the hyd cam
HOWEVER
early lifters used a smaller radius on the lifter cup- notice all the cam companies that list different pushrods for different years 1812 vs 2011 ( I think the cups are different heights)
most likely a regrind is coming so you will need a longer than stock pushrod even with the early lifters and early hyd pushrods
but go with the later lifters and determine the correct length- you can run the adjustable rockers but have the adjusters maybe one or two threads out when measuring for pushrods - use the mid lift method

but as I said I would not use those early lifters- convert to the more common AMC/ Magnum lifters

The poly I have is out of a 1966 coronet.We have it down and it came with solid lifters.With out the oil galleys how will they ever work if i use heroic lifters?In the block there is only a hole for lifter lubrication.If I am looking at it correctly.Asking because this is my first poly.

Never dove into my 66 teen but with nearly 100k miles on it, the lifters were still quiet so I'm betting they weren't solids. I've had a few slant 6's that were all solids and had to adjust them once in awhile. All my engines saw max rpm's and that old 66 teen was in my first car saw plenty of hell. I'm still surprised that it never blew up even when I tried to do so. I've read that the 318-3 premium engine came with hydraulics so, would one of these engines be placed into a 66 Belvedere II? It had several options but not fully loaded either. If it had solids, it was the most quiet running solid lifter engine I've ever heard....

polys are solid lifter. the cam has a gentle closing ramp that takes up the lash. slant sixes were the same way until their later years. solid lifters don't have to be noisey; hydraulics aren't always quiet. it's in the lobe profile.

All of my /6 vehicles got noisy around 60k or so.....just sayin. The newest 6 I ever had was a 74 with one a 66 and another a 67. My .660 solid lift roller in a 440 stayed adjusted much to my surprise but you could hear it especially when cold. On the other hand, my buddies .600 solid lifter non roller setup with the same brand/style rockers wouldn't stay put to save his life. I did find these links....

Has the engine in question on sweptline.org been modified and is it possible that a 318-3 engine made it into a car? Just wish I had pulled a valve cover from my old 66 Belvedere to at take a look but never was interested in that engine. It got replaced with a mild 383 right before it was about to hit 100k miles and it had it's tongue hanging out. It was still quiet however lol

just found hydraulic cams for /6's in 1981.
Never heard of hydraulic lifters in any poly engine. Definitely not an expert, especially with the odd sized and Canadian versions. The 318 that I bought out of a 66 Fury years ago had solids. They weren’t noisey, they also were rarely adjusted, but they weren’t 300 degree .600 lift cams either.

Thought they started in the late 70's? Dunno....never really kept up with them...
Was just using that as an example. People have always said that roller cams had a more radical profile which I agree with but thought it was a bit odd that my .660 roller cam kept it's adjustment and my buddies .600 non-roller didn't....and....none of my /6 engines stayed adjusted either. Maybe it was because I was always in them hard as they go? My 66 teen stayed even though that engine saw max rpm too. Also posted a couple of links in my previous post about the 318-3 engine having hydraulics. Would like to know more info about it but it ain't important to me to spend a bunch of time doing more research on it.

nobody adjusted them during tune-ups. they just ran forever.
Curious, what is a 318-3 engine? What were they used in?

I think a lot of tappet adjustment issues are user related. I have found that the more radical the profile the more it's possible to be inconsistent on adjustments. I always run big cam adjustments thru twice. the key is consistency.
