WTB I am in the beginning stage of looking for a 1968 Superbee to purchase.


There's so much wrong under the hood, where does one begin?

This looks like a pretty strong car to me. Looks very original and well cared for. Short of a rotisserie chassis restoration, it looks like everything else is done on the car. Im always impressed by a clean fender tag sitting on a painted inner fender that appears to have been prepped for painting with the same care as the body. PS is a plus for actual driving. A 4-speed is highly desirable by most, or at least usually commands a higher price.
 
So, how about a good story as we close out the long Thanksgiving weekend? Someone I called regarding a 68 Super Bee for sale actually emailed me back and said I could call anytime to the number he left, so I called and we had about a 5 minute conversation. He was actually on vacation in Florida and still took my call which I thought was very kind of him. The Super Bee they had is still for sale, but it had things I did not want. This is the red 4 speed that has been shown in this thread for 64.9K. I told him that I thought it was a very nice car, but that I really did not want a red car or a 4 speed, but I might consider it if it was still available when/if I got to the point of accepting some things I did not really want. I asked him if he knew of any others and he told me that he had only come across 3 68 Super Bees in his 30 years in business. We were just about to end the call when he said he knew of another, and according to him, pretty original, but he was not sure it was for sale. It belonged to a client who was keeping it for his son, but apparently, that plan had changed. He also mentioned that the owner had gone through or was going through a divorce. He also told me the owner had another Super Bee (not sure which year on that one), and that he had swapped a 392 Hemi in to that one and was considering doing the same to the 68 he was telling me about, but ended up deciding against it since he had other priorities, and because the car was so original. About all the information I could get was that this was a dark green car with black interior (bench seat) and black tail stripe. It had the original (I believe he said matching numbers) 383 with the 727 automatic and the original rear end (don't know the ratio). All of this interests me greatly. He said he remembers some surface rust in the trunk pan, and that it had been sitting for a while. Also, he mentioned that the driver door had been painted and the color was noticeably different different from the rest of the car, kind of like the red one he is selling. These things do not bother me as I have connections for addressing these kind of issues, and they do not need immediate attention as this is going to be a driver car. He mentioned that he did not have the owners number with him in Florida, but he would call him at some point when he returned from vacation on 12/5/25 and let me know what he finds out. I will certainly share that here when I have more information. He also mentioned that he thought the price would be reasonable since it will need some work and that the car is in the New York/New Jersey area. I am going to close with a couple of questions.

Just wondering if anyone knows this car and has any further information on it??? As for tail stripe, I think white would look better on a dark green car. What is the deal on tail stripe? Is any stripe color "correct" with any particular body color? I sure hope the owner is in the selling mood and that the car checks out to be in reasonable condition at a reasonable price!!!
