That pic is the primary latch mechanism, the secondary is a loop above where the primary goes into the cowl that should catch the latch mechanism if it releases from the cowl.

Sorry, no... The loop is for the primary latch, the hook is the secondary or backup latch...

Maybe we trying say the same thing. The loop above catches the latch above the cowl which is where the hood sits fully closed.

Hood pins only work if the pins are in place. Ask me how many flying glass hoods I've seen at the racetrack where someone forgot to put the pins back in.

Lol. More than five, don't know the exact number, but I've been going to the races for a LOOONG time!
I actually stopped a guy once as he rolled out of the lanes. He honked at me to get out of his way....... until I held up his hood pin lanyard. He was oh for six.

On my tube Arrow the front end, the hood and the rear hatch were held on Dzus 1/4 turn fasteners. One day in my haste to get on the road for the 150 mile journey to the track, I neglected to fasten 2 of the rear hatch buttons. One mile from home I saw one side of the hatch above the roofline. Broken fiberglass. I did always double check the hood buttons any time I removed it. My current Satellite has front hood pins and stock hinges on the fiberglass hood. I didn't use lanyards on the pins. When I open the hood, I put the pins on the studs so I don't forget to install them.
