How would a person figure out what options his/her car was equipped with from the factory?

i can only get so much info from the fender tag (or whatever you call it).
the certicard does not hold much info, the vin i cant find a good place to decipher.

what about dealer installed options? were there any available? if so, how can you find out what has been installed or what was available that can be added?

any help would be appreciated.

I got lucky with my 66...the original owner saved the window sticker. Never did find a build sheet in it that I can remember.....

i also have little hope of finding a build sheet. i havent pulled the rear seat or the tank yet. i know that is a common hiding hole, where else can the build sheet be hidden?

i just aquired a 66 belvedere 2, 2dr hard top, 318, 3 speed on the tree, a/c but i dont think it is factory.

Point: the fender tag only lists key Factory build options or 'packages'
Dealer stuff will never show up any 'build sheets'. Some add on sort of items tend to be dealer adds, like changed wheelcovers, passenger o.s. mirror, wheels.
Learning what options your car 'might' have means studying options off factory lit, list what came that year. Deduce yourself what is logically placed on your model of car AS you see it. I can tell right off , you have a LIKELY cheaply optioned car. CLUE its a 318, its a 3 speed, and a Bel 2. The car has no added value if it has tinted glas, or A/C, so dont obsess over what it came with. Tale-tell signs of incorrect positioning of options, can give a clue of dealer install. Classic example is antenna on a radio delete car, because dealer drilled hole in fender wrong.

Factory air will have the center registers 'in' the dash while the left and right sides hang from the dash. Most people didn't bother to use the factory installed type when adding it and neither did the dealers. I have a dealer installed unit too and it's a complete package that bolts to the bottom of the dash in the middle similar to what the 65-66 Mustangs came with from the factory. My 66 Belvedere I 2dr sedan came with a /6, ac, auto trans, tinted glass, padded visors, air foam front seat, undercoating.....all for the grand total of 2690.00. And I did find a build sheet....3 to be exact. Dug out my folder and there they were but I don't recall finding one on top of the gas tank. I used to part cars in the 70's and removed a bunch of tanks and don't recall ever seeing one there but on top of the glove box, under carpet, in the headliner, in seat springs, and under the trunk mat are common places to find them.

i am not stressing over if the car has any value. i just like to know what the car came with that way i can sleep better at night. lol.

i like to add correct options, even the strange ones, just to be different because most people like to add the HP or comfort options to add value, or to buffalo people into thinking they have a more sought after car than what is really in front of them.
