New guy here.Hi Guys!I'm new to mopars so bear with me.My neighbor up the road is unfortunately fallen on hard times and needs to sell his 66 satellite.I never seen it up close until today when I got him to take the cover off of it today so i could check it out.Hes reluctant to sell it but he can't afford to do much with it and so on.Hes owned it for 30 years, and its been sitting and rotting away.It looks cool, but it has a good amout of rot on it. the truck,dr floor, both quarters bottoms, both fenders bottoms, and trunk. No vinyl top so thats ok.Int is original ,but shot.It has a 4sp,originally 3on the tree, buckets ,console, factory tac"not working",it has factory gauges. It has 4 68 style mag wheels and decent tires.Car is beige with gold int.The good is he has a 66 383 in there. He just had the heads redone,so it runs decent,no leaks! It has a 66 4spd tranny,Don't know what its called but he said its a 66 4spd.It also has a I could be wrong on the gear being a pontiac guy i dont know the ratios.but maybe a 3:54 .I know its a Dana 60 rear.I have always like these cars and it looks cool with the white letter ires and magnum wheels.I didn't take pictures yet.My question to you guys is,Is it worth fixing?I can an do most of the work myself,I have restored 4 frame off cars already so I am capable. But is it worth fixing?I know these cars aren't to exspenive. He has the brakes working with new master and so on.You guys know these cars better then anyone.Thats why I'm on here asking you guys.We didn't talk numbersI left it with him that,I'll look into prices on parts and see if its worth it?He still hasn't come to turms with selling it,so I didn't hold a gun to his head.He know that If I buy it,its going to a good home.I'm thinking its worth $1500 .I know the rear is worth around that. Please give me your opinion. Thanks,Tom

You won't get hurt even up to $2500,but are you looking for a project or a driver??

I agree as it has to be worth that in parts with the dana 60. Another thing to keep in mind on these cars is the lack of good quality reproduction exterior sheet metal. Still alot not being repoped for the 66-67 B-bodies. Good luck!

Yeah, as in NOTHING.

Unless you can do all the work yourself and value your time at nothing you will be WAY ahead to buy a done driving car. OTOH, if you don't have the funds to do that and are looking for an entry level car that you can do as you can afford to do it that is fine. Lots of guys are only able to do it that way but you will definately have more in it.

Is this the body style you want or is it that it is just convenient?

If you are open on the year check your local craig's list as you may be surprised what is for sale in your area.

Also, 68 up has more repo parts available.

Hey Tom,

AMD sells the floor/trunk pans for that car as well as Sherman/Goodmark, but don't expect to find anything other than patch panels for the exterior, like indicated in the prior posts.

Don't expect to do a frame off on this car, unless you're handy with a torch...LOL. They're welded my friend. If you can snag a 66 Satty with a Dana 60, running 383 with a 4 speed, for $1500 bucks...you're doing pretty dang good. Don't expect to make a mint off restoring it, it just isn't going to happen. But like you indicated, you'll end up with one awesome looking car.

Good luck to ya.

Thanks for everyone advise!I did just that, look on CL and every other web site I could think of.Looking for parts and cars.It seems to me after all the searching, that this neighbors car is nothing more then a parts car.If hes ok with me doing just that??I would buy it for all the drive train and clutch pedels and buy a cleaner 66 satellite to switch the parts over too!
As for buying a car done,I know I'm better off buying one done.My problem is I love restoring cars.I just got done with my 72 TA and now I'm bored. It took almost two years and a total of 45k.Its a sickness,I know. But your are right about at least buying as clean as a car as posible!Thre are a few for sale here on LI.I'll keep you guys posted if something comes up.Thanks guys,Tom.
