I wear a mask, when I Need one. Today was Fireplace Maintenance Day ! The Ash Pit clean out, for our fireplace, is in the basement: Big Mistake. Last clean out was 9/18. Thirty 5gal buckets 3 years ago, 30 buckets today, so about 10 buckets per year. Glad that's done, Beer:30 Now !

Good lord.....thats alot of ash. I have a wood furnace and I probably get 8 or so 5 gallon buckets a year, just not at 1 time. Beer:30 is damn rite!

Heck Dan, that's respirator territory!! That little paper mask ain't doing much. Take care of your lungs, brother.

That's one hell of a lot of ash! What kind of wood any how many cord a year do you burn? I'm glad to see someone else creating co2 that plants crave and keeping the forests clean and healthy!

We usually burn 7-10 face cord a year. Had to cut some elm, and ash the past few years, due to the bugs, and burn that in the warmer Winter months. Beech, hard maple, oak, and hickory when it really gets cold. I figured I was pretty dirty, so I cleaned the outer dump too, about 6 buckets of creosote there...

I remember walking into a kitchen job about 10 years ago and the creosote had caused a nasty fire. That job went through the insurance company.
